machine washable

Every thing I make is machine washable, even the wools! I tend to make everything out acrylics because it is hypo-allergenic and doesn't shrink. Generally I don't wash crocheted stuff that often, most of it is outer wear anyways. Here are some handy tips to keep your crocheted items looking new:

  • Place your item inside out in a pillowcase and tie off the end.
  • Use cold water, mild soap, and a gentle cycle for optimum results
  • Alternatively, you can handwash your item but be gentle, excess scrubbing can cause little lint balls to form and you could stretch it out of shape
  • Using fabric softener can alter some yarns so I would stay clear and especially with fuzzy yarns, it can increase flammability

drying

Technically you could throw it in the the dryer on low heat but it's better to lay it flat and let it air dry

pilling

Pilling (little lint balls) are common in crocheted goods. For a grungy look, it's fab, but usually it makes your stuff look old. They usually form in areas where it is constantly being rubbed but many home supply stores carry fabric shavers or lint combs that easily take off these lint balls.

loose threads

Because everything I make is by hand, I usually weave the ends of the yarn back into piece to hide it instead of creating a great big knot. If your thread comes undone in the wash, simply weave it back on the inside of the item.
